Variety, Variety, Variety!

One key thing we often hear from seniors (and their families) that've had portraits taken elsewhere, is that they wish they had known about the variety we offer within a session before they had made a decision on where to go.  Plenty of companies offer either a formal in studio experience or outdoor on location photography only.  Most people don’t realize that we are a one-stop shop that can offer both of those options, and more!

At Siobhan, we can provide indoor studio portraits, a beautiful outdoor setting for natural light portraits AND we can go the location of your choice.   We work with you to choose settings and poses that compliment your choice of outfits, and encourage you to incorporate personal items, pets and family members.  We strive to make your senior portraits as unique and special as you are, and we want to give you the gift of preserving who you are at this moment in time through images you are proud to share with your family and friends.  Thinking outside of the box can have a powerful effect on your photographs, and we love to try new and different things!

If you have not seen our work with seniors or just want to see what we’ve been working on, take a look at our website for seniors at www.siobhanseniors.com , or visit us on Facebook (Siobhan Fine Photography).  We also encourage you and your family to come by the studio to take a look at everything we have to offer and get to know us!  We look forward to working with you soon!

Seniors: Don't Settle For Bland!

SENIORS-

Did you know that you don’t have to settle for the standard graduation announcements? As the school year moves along you will begin to see information on ordering graduation invitations and announcements sent home through your school.  Most people don’t realize that these standard invitations aren’t the only option!  We can create something beautiful and eye catching that really speaks to your personality instead of something bland.

Yes, it is possible to give up the traditional boring invitations without sacrificing the quality.   Time and consideration is really the key.  Our process begins when you come in for a consultation to discuss your interests & any ideas you might have about what you are looking for in a portrait.  Your senior session will be tailored to you, and we will craft your portraits to suit your personality.  With the resulting images in hand, we can then work to create outstanding announcements that will really make you shine.

Your high school graduation is one of the most important days of your life- don’t settle for just the minimum.  Don’t wait until the last minute to have your announcements made and get stuck with the bland, generic option.  Call Siobhan Fine Photography at (281) 807-5282 to schedule your session and get the process started.  You will be glad you did!

2016 Seniors - It's Prime Time!

Congratulations on beginning your senior year!  Now that Summer is over and the heat will start to fade, it’s time to think about senior portraits.  As the weather evens out and the temperature gets cooler, we are entering into prime time for your outdoor portrait session!

Siobhan Fine Photography offers a combination of indoor studio and outdoor time for a session that is molded to your personality and tastes.  Cooler and less humid weather means less sweating and less frizzy hair!  In terms of the subject’s comfort, this time of year is the most suitable for outdoor portrait sessions, which means it is also a very busy time for the studio!

To ensure you will be granted your desired appointment date and time, be sure to call the studio well in advance.  We invite you to give us a call at 281-807-5282, visit our website (www.siobhanseniors.com) or our Facebook page (Siobhan Photography) or jut come in to the studio to have a look around.  We look forward to speaking with you soon!

Cost Versus Value

There’s a disturbing rise in the popularity of portraits taken by “professional” photographers with little to no training. This day and age, anyone can buy a camera, put up a website and call themselves a photographer.  By offering “on location” only shoots and promoting “natural light” portraits only, photographers are able to cut out a lot of overhead costs, but at what price?  It's not always the case, but no studio location and no lighting equipment tends to indicate a lack of formal training, and it also rules out half of the portrait experience you deserve.  Scenic outdoor shoots with natural light are beautiful, but we would prefer to give you that PLUS something more.  We don’t just understand lighting (which it is often necessary to supplement, even in outdoor shoots with “natural light”)- we paint with it.

Photo editing programs and filters can only carry you so far with a photograph that is not properly lit. Take a look at a few of the examples from the PPA below :

Like the PPA says:

More Than The Minimum

There is a difference between the minimum requirement for something and going above and beyond to create something beautiful and full of quality.  Just as you would put thought and consideration into anything important, choosing a photographer for your senior portraits is a big decision.  While your school most likely requires a bland head shot in formal dress for the yearbook, that does not mean that you have to settle on it as your senior portrait.  You will be sending these photos to everyone you know- friends and family who will treasure those images and hold onto them forever.  Make your choice responsibly, and seek out portraits that are both beautiful and representative of the person you are.

At Siobhan Fine Photography, we want to make sure that you are informed about your options, and we encourage personal involvement in the process of crafting your portraits.  Before we ever schedule a portrait session, we insist on meeting each senior for a no charge consultation on what he/she is looking for in a portrait, and we want to know what things are important to you. Knowing who you are and what hobbies and interest you have helps us to create far more personalized and special images.  We will walk you through your options and discuss what types of clothing, jewelry etc will work best for your session.  We even encourage you to bring outfits you are considering to your consultation for an even better idea of your best options.  If you would like to include personal items or other people that are of special importance in your session, we encourage that as well.  We want you to come in and take a look around the studio, get familiar with us and be comfortable before we schedule anything.

Once you have decided on our studio, we will schedule a time for your senior session.  That session will include multiple outfit changes (both formal and casual, or even a sports uniform if applicable), and both indoor and outdoor photographs.  Later, you will be able to review your images in the privacy and comfort of your own home and build a collection of your favorites before returning to the studio to place your order so that we can answer and questions you may have in person.  The attention to detail and dedication to crafting a personalized portrait we provide is something that can not be obtained from any chain studio.

We know that you have a choice in where you have your senior portraits taken, and we want to give you the personalization and quality that you deserve.  This year, go to Prestige for the necessary yearbook photo, but come see us for beautiful and timeless  portraits that you can be proud of.

Fun With Team Sports Photos- Examples

Here are some more examples of fun with sports photography.  Of course we take the serious posed team shots necessary for things like yearbooks and hanging on the school walls, but having a little fun relieves stress and gets the kids excited to be there!

Something More Than Required

A lot of people don't realize that you have options when it comes to the type of senior portraits you have made. For decades the standard yearbook and cap and gown photos have dominated popular ideas about what a senior portrait should be, but thankfully that has changed!  While we recognize that these types of photos have their place, we want to give you something more- a senior portrait that is as uniquely beautiful as the individual character we see in each student.  Take a look at the examples and information below and see what you think!
The first thing that comes to mind when most people say "senior picture", is the formal dress head shot that is required for the yearbook.  Chain studios, like the ever popular Prestige, are just fine for this type of photo.  They are usually contracted by the school, and you will not have a choice in the outfit you wear or the pose.  If you are offered something more, you will be flooded with cheesy elementary school props and limited to a few studio backdrops. These are not the photographs that represent who you are, but are a necessary part of your senior year.

Tuesday, March 31, 2015

In general American culture, there is no celebration to signify the transition from childhood to being an adult.  The closest thing we have to a moment that defines that transition is the passage from high school into the adult world.  With senior portrait, we are able to essentially stop time.  We can preserve that moment in someone’s life as they are, and also present them to the world for the first time as an adult.  This transition into adulthood is a milestone occasion, one which is unlikely to be rivaled in terms of photography, with the only exception typically being a person’s wedding day.   We want to help each senior capture who they are and really make the portraits represent the subject.  To preserve each one just as uniquely beautiful as they are.  Celebrate this major turning point and look forward to future with joy and wonder.

We are looking for upcoming seniors (class of 2016) who aren't afraid to show their fellow students who they are ad what makes them unique.  We need people of all types, and want to hear from all of you.   Make your mark and share your beautiful photos and you could earn discounts, freebies and even win a $1,000 scholarship.  For details and to apply, go to our website at http://www.siobhanseniors.com/faces .

Have Some Fun With Team Sports Photography

Photographers are often tempted to go the traditional route with team sports photography.  We have gotten into a habit of posing and editing in ways that are “safe” and admittedly boring.  Sometimes you have to push yourself to break out of the box that you’re used to and do something a little different in order to really do justice to the team you’re working with.  Capturing a little personality is crucial to your work, and even more so when working with a younger audience.

Instead of lining everyone up in rows with hands behind their backs and smiles on their faces, mix it up a little bit.  Try changing up the way team members are standing, the way you stack them and the expressions on their faces.   If you’re unsure if the group you’re photographing will be receptive to a newer style, ASK.  It has been our experience that most teams and coaches alike have been waiting desperately for something different.  They really love being able to show who they are in their photos.  We do a standard group shot, but also one with a little more attitude.  Take the photos below for example.  You will never see a real softball player in a clean pressed white uniform.  These girls work hard and get dirty.  They have earned the grass stains and dirt, and they want that toughness and hard work to show in their photographs.

When it comes to editing and correction of the photos, try something a little different and more modern there too.  Play with your saturation and settings to give that dramatic feel.  A few minutes of editing can really give your work some impact.  The same goes for the individual photos.  These girls were so happy to finally have something besides the same old traditional photos because they didn’t represent them at all. We even decided to take a few “silly” photos at the end of the session to really have fun with it, which we later put up on Facebook for the girls to have and share.  We had a great time and so did the team, and all of the photos came out beautifully.

Class of 2016 - We are searching for the Faces of Siobhan!

Our portrait studio is seeking strong personalities - characters of all types to represent us and to inspire your fellow seniors in the Cypress/ Houston area.  We are not just looking for models, but a variety of faces; real people who are willing to let the world see what they’re made of and want to share their experience with others.

Why do we want to photograph seniors, and what’s so special about Siobhan Photography?  We understand that your senior year is a major turning point in your life.  You may or may not know exactly where you’re headed, and that’s ok!  You might move away or stay local, but your roots have given you the strength of character to enter the future with confidence and pride.  We want to capture the essence of who you are now because we believe in the beauty and power that’s found in the depth of personality.

Seniors who are chosen to lead the way as The Faces of Siobhan will let their light shine for the world to see.  If selected, you will be featured in a variety of studio promotions  and will receive discounted sitting fees,  digital copies of select poses for use on social media, and a variety of other incentives.  Discounts and incentives increase with every senior you refer who books a portrait session with us.  One deserving senior chosen from all of the 2016 seniors photographed by our studio will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship to the school of his or her choice.

If you think you have what it takes to motivate your class and a desire to share your story, go to http://www.siobhanseniors.com/faces for details and instructions on how to apply.  Our senior open house will be held at the studio Sunday April 26th from 12-4 pm.  Come in to have a snack, take a look around and discuss the senior portrait process. Like us on Facebook @siobhanphotography and follow us on Instagram @siobhanseniors to follow our search for senior faces or just see what’s new with the studio.
